“Your sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it.
And your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it.
You presume you are a small entity, but within you is enfolded the entire Universe.
You are indeed the evident book, by whose alphabet the hidden becomes manifest.
Therefore, you have no need to look beyond yourself.
What you seek is within you, if only you reflect.”
Imam Ali (AS)
Sometimes just a few words taken seriously and being contemplated within the heart, can journey us for years and years to come. Sometimes much more than bombarding oneself with constant knowledge that never touches the heart. I remember the first time I came across this saying from Imam Ali (as), it left me reflecting for a long time. And although years have passed, I always go back to it and ponder again. I have to say that the idea of a universe enfolded left me thinking for years of un-reachable knowledge, and years and years of studying, in constant searching. But he says: “what you seek is within you, if only you reflect”. And then I will find myself resting within that sentence. That paradox of expansion and contraction of listening but not being able to grasp fully.
Many years have passed since I first read this saying. And today I thought about the blog within my website that I have left blank for many months. I thought about how to share with whoever comes to visit it, something of what I have so abundantly been given that could be of benefit in any way. And taking Imam Ali (AS) by the hand, it is my intention to explore and share the abundance of inner medicine that we hold within that I have been blessed to experience, to ponder upon, to learn from others, to become curious about, to lose the fear of knowing in some cases, that is simple and easy to access as I believe the real learning comes from our experience with the teaching… Other people in our lives are pointers that soften the heart for experiential knowledge to begin flowing and for curiosity to awaken. In this way, to give access to birth knowledge from within.
With these series of simple writings, I would like to be a pointer for you and I would like to share what I know of accessible medicine that we carry within our abundant inner universe. I would like to invite you to my open table for you to find any nourishment that you feel could be good for you. It is not my intention to speak about things that create even more anxiety within for all of those things we are not doing or the always present “most do” stuff. Instead, I would like to speak about pointers and simple techniques that just require observing and becoming curious. In a sense, the meeting of the adult and the child within. I also would like to avoid, as much as I can, any jargon of any sort so that what I share here can reach anyone who would like to listen.
